I'm pretty irritated this morning. Nick had to be at work at 7AM, but I am off of work until January (wooo!), so I was sleeping in when Nick came in and woke me up at some ungodly hour (6:30AM) to tell me the lights on both of our bikes had been stolen. I mean, my first thought was how glad I am that they didn't steal the whole bike! But then I laid in bed and thought about how totally rude it is to steal!
I mean, our bikes are not in some public bike lock. They're secured to a pole next to my front door, under the stairs for the upstairs neighbors. Literally the only people have reason to walk anywhere near our bikes are us and the neighbors right across from us. I doubt our neighbors would steal them, just because I know those girls are just ridiculously dim witted (but that is neither here nor now). The fact is that sometime between 5PM yesterday and 6AM today, someone specifically came over to my apartment, under the stairs, and went through the trouble of taking 4 separate lights. And not just the lights, but the mechanisms that hold the lights to the bike. I mean, really? We need those to ride our bike in the evening or early morning, so it's not like those were going unused. Now we'll have to go pay about $70 to get new ones, and start remembering to take them off every time we get off our bikes. Stupid.
I didn't mean to rant quite so much about that. It just bugs me that people steal. This time it was just some $70 bike lights, but why did they do it? Because they could? It reminds me of about 4 years ago when Nick dropped me off at a friend's house for the day so he could do some Christmas shopping. He spent the whole day out, buying things for me and for friends and family, spending pretty much his whole Christmas budget. After, he picked me up and we went out to a cheap little diner for some grub. Sometime between picking me up from a friends, eating out, and getting back home all of the items had been stolen out of the trunk of our car. And not just the Christmas gift items, also Nick's winter coat, a GPS that we had borrowed from the in-laws and stored in the trunk to be safe, and several bags of food. I mean, who does that? How do you even break into the trunk of a car? It's just so lame.
You know the family that I hate? Those inbred idiots on my mom's side of the family? They're the kind of people who do this. I remember a few years ago hearing about my aunt's friend getting arrested for stealing things out of cars in a shopping center parking lot in December.
Anyway, I don't mean to be so Scrooge like. I truly do love Christmas and this time of year. I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying to remember all of the good things I have in my life.
(By the way--almost done with finals! Woohoo!)

Yay for almost being done with finals!!! And then you'll have a little break until January. That's so lovely.
I'm so sorry about the ignoramuses (my new favorite word!) who stole your bike lights. It's ridiculous, disrespectful, and infuriating. Sometimes people make it really hard to get in the Christmas sprit, you know? Ugh.
