24

I had a pretty interesting start to my 24th year.

First of all, I had my alarm set for 7:15. It was the glorious Wednesday where I get to sleep in, because I am not due to be working at the museum until 9. At 6:45, my mom called. That was all well and good, and I promptly fell right asleep after she and my step dad serenaded me. Then at 6:57, my best friend texted me. The buzzing was annoying, but I squeezed my eyes tighter. Then at 7:05, my brother called me and also sang his rendition of Happy Birthday.  At that point, I gave up and got in the shower.

While I was in the shower, Nick's phone began ringing nonstop. The emergency alert system had been activated, and there was a bomb threat on campus. Not really surprising; since since the age of Animal Farm, annoyed students have made bomb threats near finals week in hopes of getting classes cancelled. None the less, it was really annoying. Most of campus was closed, but classes were not cancelled.

I went to the museum and had a great time with a group of 5th graders, but towards the end of the tour, the power went out (thank goodness the museum has emergency lights). There were campus wide blackouts all day.

The museum was really awesome, though. My professor, Dr. Julie, had a big gourmet cupcake waiting for me when I got there, and all the other docents wrote messages on the white board for me.

After the cupcake and the campus wide blackouts, the biggest building on campus (and officially the tallest building in the city of Chico, at a whopping 7 stories) was evacuated because fire alarms were going off.

While K and I were trying to navigate through the madness of the bomb threat/squad team/K-9 unit, police tape everywhere, and people being evacuated, we saw something that just made the whole day better:

Someone dressed up as a vagina.

It was a full on, could be nothing else, vagina costume. He was handing out flyers for a cupcake sale. I have no idea what the correlation was.

Throughout the day, my phone buzzed and let me know, on 64 different occasions, that someone was saying Happy Birthday to me on FB. Gotta love hearing from people that haven't spoken to me since the exact same day last year, right? ;)

When I finally got home, Nick and my parents and I all headed to Applebee's for some gluten-free riblets. It was an odd, but fun day!

(For those interested, I was given a blender, a laminating machine, and a heated throw as gifts, as well as some gift cards. I'm a lucky girl!)

OMG, I am DYING over the vagina costume. DY-ING. That is so random and hilarious!

It sounds like a sort of kooky but wonderful day. Just like you: kooky and wonderful. :) Happy Birthday once again, Patty!

I think that the Vagina costume was worn by a female. This makes the most sense to me.

I'm glad that you had a *good* (albeit quirky) Birthday.

I am also glad that Lucy enjoyed your birthday cupcakes. next time I bake I'll pack extras just for her!! lol.
